Softonic review

A free download manager that is difficult to find

Download Manager is difficult to find because the publisher stopped allowing people to download and install the program in late 2014. If you can get a copy, it downloads files in chunks, gathers all the data, and then knits the pieces together. Downloading this way allows for faster downloads than a web browser that downloads one part of a file at a time.

  • Faster than downloading with your web browser
  • Organizes your downloads by date or name
  • The interface is complex but mostly self explanatory
  • Pause and resume from previous sessions that were interrupted

  • The publisher hasn’t allowed new downloads since 2014
  • Has old bloatware attached to the download
  • It is difficult getting it to download from unaltered URLs
  • Freezes randomly when downloading larger files
